The Government of Odisha founded IIIT Bhubaneswar, which was incorporated as a society in 2006. In
September 2007, it first opened for business. The Government of Odisha's initiative is what gave rise to IIIT
Bhubaneswar. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who was the president of India at the time, placed the institute's
cornerstone in 2005. In 2006, the institution applied to become a society. A governing body, made up of
officials from the Odisha government, business executives, and academics, is in charge of managing the
institute.

JEE Main, a national-level entrance test, and the JoSAA counselling procedure are the only criteria used to
determine admission to the B.Tech programme. In addition to B.Tech, IIIT Bhubaneswar also provides
M.Tech at the graduate level and Ph.D. programmes at the research and doctoral levels in a number of
specialities based on admission examination results. However, Ph.D. admissions are based on a written test
and a personal interview performed by the institute, whereas M.Tech admissions are made based on GATE
results followed by CCMT counselling
