In realisation of the necessity for training better quality technicians to satisfy the huge scale industrialization of the country, the ministry of HR Development. Government of India established four Technical Teachers' Training Institutes (now National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research, NITTTR at Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai and Kolkata in 1967.
The Institute at Chandigarh is one all told these four NITTTRs, started unitedly with Royal Netherlands Government (up to 1974).
National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh started with future teachers' training programs for polytechnic teachers in 1967. It was also given responsibility of promoting curriculum development work for the states within the region. To strengthen the competence of teachers for implementing new curricula designed by this institute, short term courses are offered since 1967. National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research (NITTTR),Chandigarh established a Media Centre in 1981 for preparing print & non-print instructional materials.
This institution is approved by MHRD and AICTE and affiliated to Punjab University, Chandigarh.
